The Phillies’ CEO Is Supposedly Considering Several AdditioRemarkably calm offseason for the Philadelphia Phillies this year, as everyone prepares to turn the calendars to February. There was some speculation that owner John Middleton and head of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski may be extremely aggressive with some big-time star players on the open market after missing out on back-to-back World Series appearances. Naturally, after re-signing Aaron Nola on a megadeal, the Phillies had to exercise some restraint because they already had the largest payroll in team history.

Still, this organization’s lack of activity since Dombrowski assumed control of the front office is unusual. The Phillies’ owner, according to a well-known Philadelphia radio broadcaster, is still looking to bolster this roster.

“N-O, without a doubt. They’re not finished yet. I predict they’ll add another pitcher to the bullpen in addition to another starter. When Howard Eskin of 94WIP joined WIP Middays with Hugh Douglas and Joe Giglio, he stated, “And they need another bat.” That’s a really accurate prediction. They can continue to bide their time and wait to see if Jordan Montgomery or Blake Snell drops to a price that Dombrowski and Middleton are willing to accept. It should be mentioned that Bryce Harper wasn’t signed by Philadelphia until March 2019.

Of all the things Eskin mentioned, Bullpen looks like the most likely addition. During this phase of the offseason, they have been most closely associated with this position. Prior to their agreements to trade with other teams, they were very interested in Jordan Hicks and Robert Stephenson. Currently, there aren’t many potentially game-changing players available that would justify the Phillies using the next phase of the luxury tax. Montgomery and Snell would probably be worth it if Philadelphia wanted to win another World Series. Perhaps Dombrowski has his sights set on those players before the new campaign kicks out. In any case, there might be more moves in store for the Phillies if they want to make a bigger impression.
