Arthur Smith is reportedly signing with the Pittsburgh Steelers. He brings sixteen years of experience to the role.

According to Tom Pelissero, Arthur Smith has agreed to join the Pittsburgh Steelers as their next offensive coordinator. He takes over for Matt Canada, who spent three seasons with the team but never had a 400-yard game.

Arthur Smith is expected to sign with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Arthur Smith was the Atlanta Falcons’ head coach for three seasons. The squad finished 7-10 all three seasons, and he was the first head coach sacked this offseason. Before taking over as head coach, he was the Tennessee Titans’ offensive coordinator, where he led the team to the third and eleventh greatest total offenses. He coordinated Derrick Henry’s 2000-yard season.

Arthur Smith began his coaching career as an assistant at the University of North Carolina in 2006, before joining the Washington Commanders in 2007 as defensive quality control coach. He worked in that position for two seasons before joining Ole Miss as a defensive intern in 2010. Smith returned to the NFL in 2011 with the Tennessee Titans.

His primary function was defensive quality control, but he transitioned to offensive quality control in 2012. He advanced through the ranks at Tennessee, eventually becoming the offensive line coach the following season. Smith worked with tight ends in Tennessee from 2014 to 2018, which is where he met Jonnu Smith. During his tenure, a tight end led the club in receiving yards (2017), with Delanie Walker enjoying an excellent season. In 2019, he was promoted to offensive coordinator, a position he held through 2020. Before heading to Atlanta as Head Coach, he focused on A.J. Brown and Derrick Henry’s game plans.

He is anticipated to offer experience to a position in Pittsburgh that has required a change for more than a season. He has more than a decade of professional experience, more than Matt Canada did when he was hired.

Callahan May Keep Shane Bowen as Titans’ Defensive Coordinator

Nashville — Brian Callahan, the Tennessee Titans’ coach, is reportedly considering keeping defensive coordinator Shane Bowen on board. According to Paul Kuharsky, the Titans will keep Bowen on staff while interviewing other candidates. Dennard Wilson, who coaches defensive backs for the Baltimore Ravens, is the only other known defensive coordinator contender. Tennessee’s defense under Bowen was 18th in the NFL in total defense (335.1 yards/game), 13th against the run (107.7 yards/game), 18th against the pass (227.4 yards/game), and last in interception percentage. While these figures are average, the Titans excelled in some situational categories.

Bowen’s defense was first in red zone (37.7 percent) and goal-to-go (42.86 percent).

Callahan, who was the Bengals’ offensive coordinator for five years before joining the Titans position, has faced Bowen’s defense three times since 2021. The Bengals’ high-scoring offenses averaged only 14 points per game, including a 27-3 defeat last season. Callahan hinted at why he would keep Bowen during his initial press conference.

“I know the hard defenses to game-plan against, and those are the things that I’m looking for in the style of defense we’re going to play,” Callahan said in an interview. “Without going too far down a lot of attributes that don’t mean anything until we put the pads on… that’s what I look for, which is what makes it difficult for me as an offensive coach. That’s the type of defense I’m searching for.
