The Patriots are looking for a new offensive coordinator, and they have broadened their search. The team is known to be considering a number of outside possibilities, but the list of employees who are attracting attention is becoming longer.

Although he is not the only member of Kyle Shanahan’s staff to have spoken with New England over the OC position, 49ers assistant Brian Fleury has already done so. Klint Kubiak, the coordinator of the passing game, also discussed the role with the Patriots. Furthermore, this week the Patriots will interview Raiders passing game coordinator Scott Turner, as noted by Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated.

As he mulls a possible return to a coordinator role, Kubiak has been linked to three other coordinator openings during the 2024 hiring cycle. The 36-year-old was the Vikings’ quarterbacks coach for one season (2021) before taking a job as the QBs coach with the Broncos in 2022. He became a vital member of Shanahan’s staff this past offseason when he arrived as the passing game coordinator, leading an offense that produced exceptional results in multiple categories and assisted in sending the team to the Super Bowl.

Kubiak can interview again next week as a result of his performance, but he won’t be hired until the end of the season. Turner’s season ended after Week 18, when the Raiders were unable to make the playoffs, so that does not apply to him. Although he has coordinator experience, the latter has not yet been regarded as a contender for any OC job around the league, similar to Kubiak.

From 2020 to 22 Turner managed the offense for the Commanders, although during that time he never led the team to a higher finish than 23rdin scoring. The 41-year-old played his whole season with the Raiders, a squad that saw significant personnel changes in the middle of the season when Antonio Pierce assumed the position of head coach. Since he is a full-time employee, it is possible that Turner and the other coaches will leave during the summer to pursue other opportunities.

The only Patriots candidate who has scheduled a second interview thus far is Nick Caley, the coach of the Rams tight ends. Therefore, he may be the front-runner for the job, but New England is undoubtedly taking a broad approach in its hunt for Bill O’Brien’s replacement.
