The Florida Gators released the depth chart for their home opener against the McNeese State Cowboys, and UF head coach Billy Napier provided updates on two key offensive linemen.

Napier told reporters that center Kingsley Eguakun is still questionable, but backup tackle Lyndell Hudson “will be available” if needed.

Eguakun suffered a right ankle injury during fall camp and was expected to play a key role on the Florida offensive line.

Graham Mertz, the Gators’ quarterback, was sacked five times against the No. 12 Utah Utes defense, and one has to wonder if Eguakun’s presence would have relieved some of the pressure.

The Gators are huge favorites in their home opener on Saturday, and the Cowboy defense isn’t expected to pose a threat to the rest of Florida’s offensive wall. Because of this, the Orange and Blue can afford to give Eguakun another week off to ensure his ankle is fully recovered.

Florida International transfer Lyndell Hudson may play a few snaps Saturday night because Napier wants to give his linemen as much experience as possible.

“I think we kind of went into the game with maybe only 13 starts with that group up front,” Napier told the media after the game. “So that group is inexperienced.”

Hudson brings a wealth of experience after transferring from FIU. The sixth-year senior started 25 games at tackle but missed the majority of 2022 due to a back injury. If everything goes as planned this week, Hudson could get a few snaps against an FCS program.
