In an effort to cut down on the number of players on its roster who are not under contract, St George Illawarra is allegedly planning to begin contract negotiations with unsigned fullback Tyrell Sloan as early as next week.

Sloan is one of 14 Saints players who do not yet have a contract for 2025; two other players have mutual option clauses set for the following season.

Jaydn Su’A, the Feagai siblings Max and Mat, Francis Molo, and Jack de Belin, along with Sloan, are among those who still require contracts for the upcoming season. Shan Flanagan’s return will prolong the transitional phase.

Sloan is a top player that the Dragons are eager to keep, as News Corp. has learned that a multi-year deal worth about $500,000 a season is reportedly in the works for the youthful fullback.

According to the publication, when negotiations begin next week, Sloan might be in line for a seven-figure contract.

In an attempt to have a breakout season, Sloan, who played 23 games for a total of 10 tries the previous year, is expected to compete for the No. 1 jumper once more this year. Under Flanagan, he should start his fourth season as a fullback.

The 21-year-old, who was born in Campbelltown, may not be the only Dragon to sign a deal before the new campaign begins; Su’A, who was previously mentioned, is reportedly in contract talks with the team.

Although the forward for St George Illawarra only played in 13 Red V games last season, he is a key player as they begin a new chapter under Flanagan.

The Dragons’ 2024 campaign will get underway on Saturday, March 9, when they travel to Cbus Super Stadium to play the Gold Coast Titans.
