Today, the Titans and their new head coach, Brian Callahan, are still working to assemble a new staff in Tennessee. According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, the Titans have asked to interview Dolphins associate head coach and running backs coach Eric Studesville for the position of offensive coordinator, in addition to the one they scheduled yesterday.
What was formerly thought to be a below-average running backs room in 2023 was transformed by Studesville. One of the most dynamic offenses in the league all year was elevated under Studesville by Devon Achane, the league’s most electric rookie rusher, and Raheem Mostert, the league leader in rushing touchdowns. Going further back, Studesville is frequently held accountable for the achievements of athletes like Tiki Barber in New York and Marshawn Lynch, Fred Jackson, and Willis McGahee in Buffalo.
This would be Studesville’s first full-time offensive coordinator position in a lengthy coaching career at the age of 56.
Under former head coach Brian Flores, Studesville served as co-offensive coordinator for the 2021 season alongside Miami’s tight ends coach, George Godsey. However, he has since returned to his current position for the last two seasons. Studesville began his coaching career in 1997 and has since worked with the Bears, Giants, Bills, Broncos, and Dolphins. He frequently holds two jobs, including assistant special teams coach and coordinator of the running game.
Callahan was merely an offensive assistant throughout Studesville’s tenure in Denver from 2010 to 2015; in contrast, Studesville served as both a position coach and, for a little period of time, an interim head coach. Because Callahan intends to call plays for the Titans, something he did not do while serving as offensive coordinator for the Bengals, Studesville’s lack of play-calling expertise also becomes less significant.
His sole rival thus far is Nick Holz, the passing game coordinator for the Jaguars, who will be interviewed on Monday. Because of his relationship with Callahan, Studesville should have a good chance of landing his first NFL full-time offensive coordinator job.
