Jaylen Watson of Kansas City had to be separated from Baltimore Ravens cornerback Arthur Maulet almost an hour before the AFC Championship game began because Watson had punched the Chiefs defender.
During warmups, Maulet made the decision to trash speak the Chiefs secondary. Watson became enraged by something that Maulet said, and they came into contact with each other’s helmet crowns.
Maulet took a step back to get distance from Watson, and then the Ravens defensive back used his left hand to strike his opponent in the helmet.
Maulet delivered the blow, and before more mayhem broke out, an official arrived to break up the altercation.
There were no expulsion penalties resulting from the M&T Bank Stadium pregame brawl.
Hey, do you know what? This is nice. A small amount of jostling. Regarding the altercation, veteran NFL wide receiver and CBS analyst Nate Burleson stated, “This is what it’s all about.” “This is where the intensity is supposed to pick up a notch.”
NFL teams usually warm up on the field simultaneously, split by midfield, before a game.
The conversation quickly got out of hand as Maulet entered the Chiefs’ half of the 50-yard line.
In many college rivalry games, referees and assistant coaches use their bodies to form a barrier across midfield.
Maulet easily breached that boundary to express his opinions to the cornerbacks and safeties for Kansas City.
After spending two seasons with the Pittsburgh Steelers, Maulet joined the Ravens this season.
