Dennard Wilson, one of several Ravens staff members who have attracted attention from outside the league, is still a well-liked contender for defensive coordinator. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the defensive backs coach for Baltimore is scheduled to have his initial interview with the Rams and Titans. Wilson will also face the Giants for the second time.
Wilson was the first person that the team is known to have interviewed for the DC position, and it seems like the first meeting went well. The Giants are now searching for a replacement for Don Martindale and have no other second interviews scheduled. The Rams have expressed interest in Wilson for the first time, but the Titans had previously requested an interview.
Martindale and head coach Brian Daboll were said to be at odds, but at first it looked like Martindale would be sticking with the Giants until 2024. Ultimately, though, the former left the team, leaving a sizable void on Daboll’s staff. As things stand, the Titans still employ DC Shane Bowen, but whenever new head coach Brian Callahan hires personnel of his choosing, Bowen will probably go somewhere else. The Rams are one of the clubs looking for a new coordinator since Raheem Morris recently returned to the Falcons to take up their head coaching position.
Although Wilson has never held a DC position in the NFL, he was a well-liked DBs coach while he was an Eagle. Though Philadelphia decided to seek outside the organization to fill the position, he was a logical inside option to replace Jonathan Gannon during the previous summer. Wilson made a lateral shift and left for Baltimore as a result. In 2023, he contributed to the Ravens’ impressive statistical performances. They finished third in interceptions with 18 and sixth in the regular season against the pass, giving up 192 yards per game.
Wilson is the sole applicant currently associated with the Tennessee position, and he is the second to have an interview scheduled in Los Angeles. However, the Titans and Rams will be in contention for his services if they are impressed after their respective first meetings with him, having advanced to the finals with the Giants.
