According to The Inquirer’s Jeff McLane, Philadelphia Eagles quarterbacks coach Alex Tanney will not return to his prior role—though he may rejoin with Indianapolis Colts head coach Shane Steichen:

Tanney, 36, was the Eagles’ quarterbacks coach last season after previously serving as their assistant quarterbacks coach, assistant (2022, under then Eagles offensive coordinator Shane Steichen), and offensive quality control coach (2021).

Tanney was an NFL quarterback from 2012 to 2020, and he spent a brief time on the Colts practice squad in 2015, among other professional appearances.

Given their surprise late-season collapse and star starting quarterback Jalen Hurts’ problems down the stretch, the Eagles have already fired offensive coordinator Brian Johnson, and Tanney figures to be the newest offensive scapegoat in line.

The 49ers’ quest for another last-second miracle merits a thorough rewind.

It’s January 14, 2012. We are at Candlestick Park in San Francisco. With 14 seconds remaining, down three, and facing a third down, the 49ers need a touchdown to keep their playoff hopes alive – without going into overtime. Meanwhile, the Saints can end this with a takeaway.

For what it’s worth, Steichen attempted to bring several Philadelphia assistant coaches with him to Indianapolis last offseason, but his demands were reportedly denied by Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni, who wanted to keep his talented coaching staff.

Tanney’s name may have already appeared among them.

The Colts’ existing coaching staff may have an opportunity for an assistant quarterbacks coach or a passing game coordinator to replace Tanney.
