The Philadelphia Eagles did not have the desired 2023-24 NFL season. The Eagles were eliminated from the playoffs during the first round. Nonetheless, the Eagles have made a move to sign former Cleveland Browns wide receiver Austin Watkins Jr., who will join Devonta Smith and AJ Brown.
After a poor season, the Eagles added Austin Watkins Jr. to their receiver depth on Thursday, according to Browns Wire. The 25-year-old spent the full season with Cleveland’s practice squad. Now he will be able to get experience among two of the top receivers in the NFL.
AJ Brown contributed significantly to Philadelphia’s offensive attack throughout the regular season. Brown has 106 receptions for 1,456 yards and seven touchdowns. He was standout quarterback Jalen Hurts’ primary target. Brown intended to have a bigger impact in the playoffs, but he’ll bounce back strong.
Meanwhile, Devonta Smith provided a great complement to Brown’s performance. The 25-year-old caught 81 receptions for 1,066 yards and seven touchdowns. He is important to Philly’s receiving core and should assist Brown in another top performance in Fall 2024.
The Eagles had a late-season downturn and ultimately lost in their NFC Wild Card game. Injuries hampered the club in 2023-24; nevertheless, they should be strong for the following season. The signing of Watkins adds depth to the team’s practice squad.
Fans will mourn veteran center Jason Kelce, but the Eagles still have some of the best young talent in the NFL. It will be intriguing to watch what other moves Philadelphia makes heading into the summer.
