NashvilleMike MacDonald, the defensive coordinator for the Baltimore Ravens, interviewed on Saturday to fill the position of head coach with the Tennessee Titans.
Due to NFL regulations requiring teams to do in-person interviews until January 22nd, MacDonald’s interview took place virtually. After Mike Vrabel was sacked by Titans owner Amy Adams Strunk, an opportunity arose. Under MacDonald’s direction, the Ravens boasted the best scoring defense in the league this season. From 2014 until 2020, he had previously served seven seasons in Baltimore.
With the Ravens, MacDonald served a number of roles, including defensive assistant (2015–16), defensive assistant (2018–20), defensive backs coach (2017), and defensive coaching intern (2014). Before joining the Ravens again, he served as Michigan’s defensive coordinator for the 2021 season. On Friday, the Giants’ Mike Kafka and the Bengals’ Brian Callahan were interviewed by the Titans for the position of offensive coordinator. Antonio Pierce, the interim coach of the Las Vegas Raiders, conducted an interview on Saturday before MacDonald. At least nine coaches have been contacted by the Titans for interviews: Callahan, Kafka, Pierce, Macdonald, Aaron Glenn and Ben Johnson of the Detroit Lions, Dan Quinn of the Dallas Cowboys, Bobby Slowik of the Houston Texans, and Brian Johnson of the Philadelphia Eagles.
