The Pittsburgh Steelers are likely the biggest surprise and underdog heading into Wild Card Weekend among the 14 teams who qualified for the NFL playoffs this season.
The Steelers’ season has been up and down, with the team unable to get much going offensively during the 2023 campaign, as head coach Mike Tomlin hasn’t been able to figure out how to convert this offense into a force to be reckoned with.
Despite the fact that the offense has been terrible, prompting the organization to fire offensive coordinator Matt Canada early in the regular season, the Steelers have been able to do enough with their defense to qualify for the playoffs and extend their season for at least another week.
Unfortunately, the Steelers will be without their finest player on Sunday when they go to Highmark Stadium to face the Buffalo Bills, as superstar linebacker T.J. Watt is expected to miss the playoff game with a knee injury.
However, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN, Pittsburgh was able to activate safety Damontae Kazee to the roster ahead of this showdown with the Bills in Buffalo.
Kazee is coming off a three-game suspension from the NFL for unlawfully wearing a helmet, a contentious decision by the league.
The 30-year-old safety is one of the greatest defensive players on the Steelers’ roster, so this was a necessary move for the game against Josh Allen and company, especially with Watt sidelined with a knee injury.
It will be fascinating to see if the Steelers can hold their own defensively with Kazee and Watt out.
