In the January transfer window, Leeds United will only target players who meet strict criteria both on and off the field.
Following their relegation from the Premier League, the Whites underwent a summer overhaul, with a new-look squad as head coach Daniel Farke set about building his own side at Elland Road. As the club dropped into the Championship, many ‘big name’ players left, and Farke wasted no time in signing players like Ethan Ampadu, Glen Kamara, and Joel Piroe, as well as bringing in Joe Rodon on loan from Tottenham.
All have made an immediate impact in West Yorkshire, helping the club to fourth place in the Championship table after a slow start. With the January transfer window now open, Farke has the opportunity to bolster his squad in order to help their Premier League promotion push.
DeJean has excellent ball skills in both the secondary and the return game.
But the German will continue to be picky about who he brings in, insisting that they must fit the blueprint in terms of personality as well as playing ability.
“Wherever I have ever worked, I have always been careful,” Farke said of the transfer market. “It is critical for me to bring in good football players who are also good people.”
“We were very careful with their personality and character over the summer.” We will continue in this manner.
“We have a good team. We are united, and we don’t want anything to detract from the group at this point.”
It remains to be seen whether Farke is satisfied with his squad, though with Djed Spence returning to Tottenham this week, he may be tempted to bring in a new full-back. Leeds have more loan opportunities this window, though it is reported that there is a budget available should he decide to make a permanent move.
