Former Texas quarterback Maalik Murphy announced where he will finish his career on Friday night, following his decision to enter his name into the transfer portal.
Murphy, who will miss Texas’ College Football Playoff run, had a difficult decision to make. A feat that the Longhorns would not have been able to accomplish if Murphy had not stepped in and led the team to victories over BYU and Kansas State while Quinn Ewers was injured. However, in order for him to have enough time to figure out where the best place for him was, a move had to be made.
Murphy will transfer to Duke, where he will be the first quarterback for new head coach Manny Diaz, according to ESPN.
Murphy selected Duke over Baylor, South Carolina, and Oregon State. A decision that many expected from the moment he entered his name into the portal, as Duke instantly became a team to watch
Baylor ended up bringing in Toledo transfer DeQuan Finn. His best performance came against BYU, when he threw for 170 yards and two touchdowns against just one interception.
Murphy brings to Duke a young quarterback with limited experience who can absolutely sling the ball all over the yard and simply did not have an opportunity at Texas due to the timing of his arrival. He was, however, a fan favorite who will quickly gain a following among Blue Devil fans.
