Mikel Arteta, the manager of Arsenal, has been putting his players through their paces in preparation for Saturday’s Premier League clash with Liverpool.
Anfield will host a huge top-of-the-table clash between Jurgen Klopp’s Reds and Arteta’s Gunners for the chance to go (or stay) to the top.
At the moment, only one point separates table-topping Arsenal and third-placed Aston Villa, who have a chance to go top if they win their game on Friday night.
On Friday, Arsenal’s media team released photos of their players in training, and one of Hale End’s top prospects was once again present at Colney.
Emile Smith Rowe was seen preparing to challenge Myles Lewis-Skelly on the Colney pitch as he held the ball.
Myles Lewis-Skelly is regarded as “unquestionably one of the most talented youngsters” at Arsenal.
The 17-year-old midfielder has been a regular in Arsenal training sessions, as well as a regular for the Gunners Under-21s.
Lewis-Skelly has made 12 youth appearances this season and came off the bench against Brighton as well as Nice in the Champions League.
Arsenal youth coach Jack Wilshere praised the youngster in April, describing him as a “top kid” in an interview with The Athletic.
Last year, Arsenal youth team expert Jeorge Bird wrote on his website that Lewis-Skelly is ‘undoubtedly one of the most talented youngsters at the club and has much potential’.
It’s encouraging to see Arteta continue to include the youngster in training with the seniors. This suggests he’s holding his own and perhaps getting acquainted with the surroundings and players he’ll be playing with in the coming years.
Lewis-Skelly has yet to make his senior Arsenal debut, but it’s only a matter of time before Arteta decides to give him minutes, perhaps in the FA Cup or later in the season.
