According to journalist Ben Jacobs, Aston Villa will demand a British record transfer fee of more than £100 million to sell Douglas Luiz, with his recent performances justifying the high price tag.

This follows reports of interest from title contenders Arsenal and Liverpool [Evening Standard, 6 December], with Luiz helping Villa to third place in the league.

The Brazilian was suspended for the 2-1 win over Brentford due to an accumulation of yellow cards, but he has been one of Unai Emery’s side’s most consistent performers so far.

According to Jacobs, who spoke to GIVEMESPORT on December 17th, “the valuation of Douglas Luiz is effectively a British record transfer, give or take, it would be £100m plus, and even then, they might still turn it down and revisit the situation in the summer.”

His last three appearances have been in a Europa Conference League draw with Zrinjski and Premier League victories over Arsenal and Manchester City, as he continues to make his mark on the division and demonstrate why he is so highly sought after.

A 100% long-ball accuracy, with all six of his six attempts finding the target, combined with a 100% aerial duel success rate, 117 touches of the ball, and five crosses demonstrated how effective his influence can be in the Conference League clash [Sofascore].

In the Premier League, a dominant win over Manchester City saw the Brazilian complete four key passes, create one big chance, and get five shots off that saw him hit the woodwork, demonstrating his attacking influence.

Luiz, on the other hand, made three clearances, three tackles, and an interception against Arsenal, demonstrating that he can provide a bit of everything in the Premier League.

This will have done no harm to his reputation, demonstrating that he can provide whatever a club requires of him, whether defensively or offensively, at a world-class level against some of Europe’s best teams. Villa should demand a British record fee at the very least.
