Michigan State’s football team is bolstering its secondary with a significant influx of transfer defensive backs for the upcoming season a strategic move following last year’s injury challenges. The latest addition is , a 6-foot, 200-pound safety from Toronto, who announced his commitment via Instagram. He began his collegiate career at the University of Guelph in Canada, earning two All-Star honors in the Ontario University Athletics league. He transferred to Texas Tech last season, where he recorded 20 tackles over nine games. Thanks to an NCAA waiver granted in December 2024, Cromwell retains one year of eligibility, allowing him to join the Spartans for the 2025 season.

His commitment marks the seventh defensive back Michigan State has acquired through the transfer portal this cycle. Other recent additions include Dontavius Nash from East Carolina, Anthony Pinnace from UTSA, and Tracy Revels from Bowling Green. Earlier, the Spartans secured Joshua Eaton (Texas State), Malcolm Bell (UConn), and NiJhay Burt (Eastern Illinois) during the winter transfer window. These reinforcements come after the departure of key players like Charles Brantley, who transferred to Miami, and Dillon Tatum, now with Northwestern.
